InfoCom Tajikistan 2007

The third Tajik International specialized exhibition INFOCOM 2007 is annual meeting of professionals in the sphere of telecommunications and informational technologies.

Telecommunications and informational technologies are the most developing and perspective industries in Tajikistan. Starting from 2000 telecommunication sector of Tajikistan became more attractive for investors not only due to its economic and geographic significance, but as a result of increasing of the volume of telecommunication market and as a result of the further increasing of operators’ profit growth.

Annual exhibition INFOCOM is the greatest annual specialized exhibition of telecommunications and communication systems in the Republic of Tajikistan became a traditional specialized event, annual meeting of professionals in the sphere of telecommunications and information technologies, where great opportunities for the meeting with target group, contacts maintaining and getting new contacts, development of mutually beneficial cooperation are afforded.

At present time the Ministry of Communication of the Republic of Tajikistan has created all the necessary conditions in order to attract foreign investments to the telecommunication sector and in future the Ministry intends to develop this tendency greatly. This sphere is one of the most progressively developing spheres of economy.

Realization of strategic goals and objectives of information-and-communication technologies is executed in accordance with the State program “Development and introduction of information-and-communication technologies in the Republic of Tajikistan”, adopted by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in December 2004. The main goal of the Program is creation of the conditions for efficiency improvement of functioning of economy, state management and local authorities on account of introduction and wide use of information-and- communication technologies (ICT). First of all the program is aimed at coordination of activities of state bodies of all the levels at the territory of the republic, in the sphere of development and wide dissemination of ICT in the economy and state management, as well as in the frameworks of the other departmental programs.

At the territory of Tajikistan the services are provided by 9 operators of mobile communication of GSM, AMPS, CDMA 450, CDMA 2001X, 3G-UMTS BA 3G standards, 10 operators of local telephone system, 8 of them introduce NGN technology, 38 operators provide INTERNET services, 7 operators provide the services of IP- telephony, 3 operators provide the services of satellite communication and etc. In conclusion, the Ministry of communication of RT issued 147 licenses for provision of services in the sphere of electric communication.

The development of telecommunication sector in the Republic of Tajikistan is executed on the basis of investment project “ Modernization of digital communication systems, transmission systems and the infrastructure of Tajikistan, related to them”. In order to realize this project European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) allocated long-term loan in the amount of 13 mln. USD. In addition, the Government of Switzerland allocated non-repayable Grant in the amount of 2 mln. USD for Tajikistan for these purposes. The great-scale of works is being executed on digitization, using up-to-date technologies of SDH/DWDM, which connect different regions of the country with the capital.
